1)
Treat all firearms as if they are
loaded at all times even when you know they are not.
2) Never point any firearm at anything you
are not willing to destroy and or kill, even when the firearm is known
to be unloaded or safety is on. This includes "sweeping" so always know where your muzzle is.
3) Never load a firearm until you are ready
to fire it. Keep in mind that this rule does not necessarily apply to
home defense or CC firearms so extra vigilance must be taken to insure
those exceptions are handled properly.
4) Know, in full, the proper safe operation
of every firearm you own.
5)
Never handle a firearm you do not know how to operate fully and safely.
6) Never hand any firearm to an
inexperienced person without first explaining the full safe use and operation of that firearm.
7) When you are handed a firearm before doing anything at all with it check to see if it is loaded. Even if the
person who gave it to you stated it was unloaded. Then refer back to rule #1.
8) Never be embarrassed to ask questions
about a firearm you intend to handle. Never make anyone asking questions
about a firearm feel in any way bad about their question.
(I know several gun stores that violate this one, treating some customers like they are below them if they ask a "dumb" question. Gil***t Guns Im looking at you.)
9) Under no circumstances should you ever
handle any firearm, loaded or unloaded, while under the influence of
drugs or alcohol including over the counter drugs that could impair you
in some way, such as some antihistamines can.
10) Be vigilant with all others you encounter
and try to instill these basic safety precautions in them as well.
Follow these rules and
you have gone a long way to improving your ability to safely handle a
firearm but never think you know it all. There is always something
useful and important to learn. Continue to seek more information and
pass on any information you have to everyone who will listen.
We see you posing with your
firearm. Its Moronic.
Now a quick note to all
on the internet who are posting their pictures of themselves with their
guns. First and foremost if you in any way post a picture of you holding
or operating a firearm in an unsafe manner then you are a monstrous
idiot.
You will notice the
photos I have posted are always of the firearms alone. That is so that
anyone who searches Google for a firearm finds pictures of my firearm
not me. I assure you they are very much not interested in seeing me at
all.
Pictures of you holding
your guns in general are kinda lame anyhow. No one really cares how you
look holding your guns. Anyone looking up firearms on the internet wants
to see firearms, not you. The occasional shot of you at the range
actually shooting might not be so bad but make sure its heavily
complemented with pictures of that same firearm alone so we can see what
we actually came to your site to see.
Last for those of you I
have seen who try to look "gangsta" with your guns. If you are truly a "gangsta"
criminal why would you be so stupid to post your picture on the
internet? Don't you realize that all actions on the internet are very
easily traced back to you? Maybe you don't but you should. If you are
not "gangsta" then why would you want to associate yourself with
criminals? Do you think its somehow cool? It really is not.
Either way stop posting those pictures it
only serves to make the rest of us think you are a complete idiot. But
then again you probably are.
